I am a first-year Ph.D. student studying educational psychology and educational technology at Michigan State University. I grew up in China and received my undergraduate education in psychology with a business minor at the University of California, San Diego, and my master's degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, studying Cognitive Science in Education. With a background in experimental psychology, my main research interests are 1) how can we help people to pursue their lifelong learning and achieve their goals? 2) how do cognitive flexibilities help us to learn and adapt to this fast-changing world? 3) to design and promote accessible multimedia learning tools to help people to obtain expanded learning and educational opportunities. I want to be a scholar that can conduct high-quality research, think critically, and continue to build and refine my value system during the years of training. I am really an interest-driven person: I want to know more about the field of psychology and education so that I want to be in a Ph.D. program and I am open to any opportunities for my future jobs as long as I'm interested in them. Outside academia, I like playing games, watching TV shows, and traveling.

I would say all the topics are interesting! But I am particularly attracted to design-based research, online learning, and game learning!!!

Hi Minnie,
Thanks so much for this introduction! This is really helpful because I will gather some additional optional reading materials for your interests. Rand will certainly connect you to the cognitive flexibility literature. I'm co-editing a special issue of Educational Psychologist right now that is focused on online learning, so we can bring some of those articles (in press by February) into this course. I can help make sure you are getting the most up-to-date work in design-based research and online learning especially!

I totally share your interests in playing games, watching shows, and would love to do more traveling. Currently, I play the New York Times Spelling Bee and Wordle every day (https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/). I'm really looking forward to learning more about what games you like to play, the shows you like to watch, and where you have traveled or want to travel.

Great to meet you, Minnie!

Chris
